Before I can treat your dog I will need to obtain Veterinary consent. Manchester Canine Massage Therapy acknowledges the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 and Exemption Order 1962 by NEVER working upon an animal without gaining prior veterinary approval.
Once you have obtained consent please email this through to me before your dogs first appointment. Please note that without consent I am unable to treat your dog.
Cost of first appointment is £35, subsequent appointments are £30. Please note this allows for 10 miles of travelling, anything over this and I charge 45p a mile. Please contact me to discuss if you have any further questions.
First Appointment will include:
A Full Consultation that will last approximately 20-30 minutes and we will go through your dog's diet, exercise, lifestyle, medical history as well as what you would like to see from their massage.
A Gait Analysis to enable me to see how your dog moves. You will be asked to move your dog at different speeds so I can assess their gait and posture. This will show up any areas of pain and discomfort as well as areas of stiffness and where they may be over compensating.
A Palpation which is a good way of getting your dog use to me. I will be feeling for areas of tenderness, injury, scarring, spasm/trigger points, temperature changes as well as muscle wastage.
A Full Body Massage that will last between 40mins to 1 hour. I will not just treat the areas of concern they will get a full work out. I will adapt the treatment to suit the needs of your dog and situation as each dog is individual so no treatment is ever the same.
Depending on what I find I will ask to see your dog a maximum of 3 times initially, some dogs may only need one appointment if it is for maintenance or just for an ‘MOT’.
For your peace of mind I work Best Practice; this means that if I find an issue of concern or that massage is not suitable for your dog you will be referred back to your vet.
After the Massage I will explain to you what I have found and will discuss with you your dogs exercise routine, some light massage techniques and stretches you can carry out and also a list of Do’s and Don’ts so that your dog can get the most from their treatment and you can see the results you want. This also gives you the opportunity to ask me any questions about the treatment or anything you may be unsure of.
I will also explain to you about the healing crises which is also known as the 'Herxheimer Reaction' is when your dog’s body restores its natural balance and begins to heal itself. It is characterized by a temporary increase in symptoms during the cleansing process which may be mild or severe. Your dog may feel worse for the first 24-48 hours afterwards and you may therefore conclude that the treatment is not working. This is a perfectly normal reaction and sets the stage for cellular regeneration.
Signs and symptoms may include:
Subsequent Treatments will usually last between 40 minutes to 1 hour but again this can vary on your dogs needs.
When an injury is present I usually work on 3 sessions over 3 weeks as this produces the best results. Sometimes you may want further sessions as a maintenance which depends on your dogs issues and long term health please discuss this further with me.
